SUPER SUPERBOWL PARTY

This year we decided to throw a MASSIVE Superbowl party at the NC State CO Staff house (where I live) so that all of our students could have a place to watch the game together in one location. The main goal of this event was to create an exciting enviroment and build momentum for our Winter Retreat which is just a few weeks away. Over 200 students were in attendance throughout the night and we were able to create 7 different viewing areas throughout the house so that everyone could watch. It was pretty sweet to say the least, see photos below.

Joy to the World…

As the semester is coming to a close, our staff team had the opportunity to honor our supporters with our annual Christmas Celebration Dinner.   We are really grateful for all of our supporters, and we could not work on the campus without their partnership! The Christmas Dinner is a time that we get to thank supporters for their commitment to us and a chance for us to share with them in giving God the glory for what has happened in our region.  There were two students who shared their stories of coming into a relationship with Jesus which was an opportunity to show what God is doing and put faces with names.  These students are not just numbers or statistics; they are precious to God.  Each of the Campus Directors got to introduce their staff team and give a brief update of the four campuses in our region.  Some of their prayer requests were for God to raise up laborers at our campuses, to continue building friendships on campus, and that we would become a more diverse ministry.  Many of the student leaders in this year’s graduating class have committed to spend the next two years of their life on the mission field in a number of ways.  Some will being going to plant a new church in Greensboro, others will be going to Kenya to work with college students or the Uhuru Child Ministry in the slums.  Several graduating seniors will be coming on staff here in the Raleigh region.  It is amazing to see how these students have prayerfully decided to surrender these next two years to God.

In closing, I would ask you to join me in praying that we would be able to remember the reason we celebrate Christmas—the birth of our Savior—and not be tempted to get caught up in the rush that tends to clutter this time of year.

Campus Outreach National Conference 101

The semester is winding down, and while students are preparing for final exams, Campus Outreach is preparing for its annual conference over Christmas break. But this year there’s a twist. CO regions from all over the country are coming to Chattanooga, TN to hold a national Campus Outreach event! Over 4,000 students are expected to attend.  Even though the actual conference is not until December 28, recruitment has already begun.  National Conference is a great way for students (and staff!) to understand more about God’s purpose for our lives and to experience true joy from Jesus.  It consists of large group meetings with big-name speakers like John Piper, Matt Chandler, and JD Greear, but also, there are smaller breakout seminars that allow students to understand more about specific topics (like discipleship, suffering, or prayer) that interest them.

While National Conference is a great time to get non-Christians to hear the Word of God, our staff and students are spending this week taking the Word of God to non-Christians to recruit for National Conference. Many of the students who we want to come to conference would not usually attend a “Christian conference.” God promises in Isaiah 55:11 that His Word “shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose.”  The power of God is in His Word, and it will never return empty. Therefore, students are learning how to share verses in the Bible with non-Christians through a conversation about National Conference. God uses verses like Matthew 6:33 (“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you”) to speak to the hearts of non-Christians.

Please pray that God will use National Conference, or NatCon, to glorify Himself and bring students to greater knowledge of the truth of Jesus. Also, please pray that God will give our student leaders boldness to share the Word of God with others, and that non-Christians will hear the Word of God even before they get to the conference. We are all excited about this year’s National Conference in Chattanooga. Another reason to be excited for Christmas break!

Fall is all about FOOTBALL!

In the last two weeks, Campus Outreach hosted both a men’s flag football tournament and a women’s powder puff tournament.  Zach’s last post was all about the Tangle in the Triangle, so I will now fill you in on how powder puff went! The purpose of the tournament was to provide an opportunity to meet students and gather together under a common love: football!  Two or three student leaders led each team, with the rest of the team made up of new students we met in the dorms, classes, etc. The teams got together in the weeks prior to the tournament to practice and decorate uniforms, which provided awesome opportunities to hangout and expose people to a body of believers outside of a church setting. The day of the tournament was absolutely gorgeous. It had rained the two days prior to the tournament, but on the day of, there was nothing but blue skies. Praise the Lord for that! Students from UNC, NC State, Campbell, and Duke attended, and Campbell brought home another victory. Go Camels!

Please pray for good follow-up with students in the weeks to come. We are praying that students that we met while playing in the tournament would want to come to the New Years Conference in Chattanooga, TN this December. Also, please pray for our students as they come back from Thanksgiving break and enter into the stresses of exams. Pray that they would be able to trust God with schoolwork, fight to love the lost well, and finish this semester strong.

Wow. I cannot believe it is almost December. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Our team is thankful for YOU.

“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.”  (Philippians 1:3-5)
